BioKON

The aim and innovation of the “BioKon” project is to optimize the process of biological ex-situ methanation in the bubble column with regard to the gas injection system and the process biology. The aim is to establish a process for the conversion of regenerative carbon dioxide and (electrolysis) hydrogen to methane by means of biological methanation in the bubble column. By using a new type of gas injection system as the efficiency-determining component of this process, the aim is to produce methane (> 95% by volume) that can be fed into the grid. Molecular biological monitoring of the system-relevant microorganisms and optimization of the conditions for the performance cultures by MicroPro should ensure a stable process. (project poster)

The research project has a planned duration of three years. The project partners are DBI Gas- und Umwelttechnik GmbH (Freiberg), Fraunhofer Institute for Ceramic Technologies and Systems (IKTS, Dresden), MicroPro GmbH (Gommern) and Ökotec Biogas Gesellschaft mbH&Co.KG, Thallwitz. The “BioKon” project (FKZ: 031B1294A) is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) as part of the KMU-innovativ funding program.
