Soil remediation — DeCoBac

There are many different causes for soil contamination with harmful chemical substances. One approach to clean up organic contaminations, e.g. oil or fuel spills from soil, is the microbiological remediation process.

A number of contaminations can easily and cost-effective degraded by naturally occurring (autochthonic) or additionally introduced (allochthoinc) micro-organisms. Accompanying measures such as chemical analyses should monitor the remediation process.

The soil-innate micro-flora can often be activated by addition of missing nutrients or oxygen. With these simple measures an increased microbial activity can result in an effective degradation process. Specific investigation to analyse the nutrient requirements of organisms can by carried out by MicroPro GmbH.

DeCoBac – if external help is required.

DeCoBac is a stable mixture of bacteria, specifically selected and adapted to degrade a wide range of hydrocarbons under aerobic conditions. In case the autochthonic (on-site) soil micro flora does not degrade hydrocarbon contaminations, the degradation potential can significantly increased by addition of active bacteria culture (e.g. in soil treatment facilities).

It has been demonstrated that speed and range of hydrocarbon degradation have been significantly increased in comparison to untreated samples. Extensive laboratory tests and field applications in various soil treatment facilities have confirmed a successful application under practical conditions.

Further information

DeCoBac — MKW is a ready-to-use liquid formulation of highly active bacterial cultures specially developed for soil decontamination.

DeCoBac — MKW consists of a complex mixture of selected bacterial strains that have been adapted to the specific remediation tasks in order to degrade the mineral oil hydrocarbons present in the soil in a targeted manner.

Characteristics and advantages

  • rapid degradation of hydrocarbons
  • non-corrosive
  • non-pathogenic (risk group 1 according to § 3 of the BioStoffV)
  • safe to handle
  • can be used immediately in the form in which it is delivered
  • particularly effective in combination with selected surfactants

Optimal conditions for use

The bacteria in DeCoBac — MKW require suitable conditions to achieve maximum performance:

  • pH range: 6.5 – 8.0 (optimal value close to pH 7.0)
  • temperature influences the activity of the working solution;
  • process increases with rising temperatures up to 50 °C
  • no activity can be expected below 5 °C

Storage and handling

  • Storage:
    • cool and dry,
    • can be stored for approx. 4 weeks
  • Handling:
    • follow the safety data sheets,
    • avoid direct contact,
    • aash hands with warm soapy water after handling

Empfohlene Dosierung

250 ppm; this corresponds to: 0.25 liters per 1 ton of soil

multiple applications may be necessary

We would be happy to prepare a suitable offer for your application. We look forward to your inquiry.
