They&nbsp;are&nbsp;especially&nbsp;based on conversion&nbsp;of&nbsp;organic&nbsp;carbon. Aerobic respi\u00adration&nbsp;tests and anaerobic&nbsp;fermen\u00adtation&nbsp;tests&nbsp;can&nbsp;be&nbsp;used&nbsp;to&nbsp;evaluate&nbsp;waste&nbsp;samples. The German standard&nbsp;tests&nbsp;for&nbsp;waste&nbsp;deposits form the&nbsp;basis&nbsp;for&nbsp;this&nbsp;evaluation&nbsp;process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:46px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">&nbsp;Respiration activity&nbsp;test (AT<sub>4<\/sub>) (in accordance&nbsp;with&nbsp;the&nbsp;Ordinance on Environmentally&nbsp;Compatible Storage of&nbsp;Waste)<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list pt-0\">\n<li>The respi\u00adration&nbsp;activity (AT<sub>4<\/sub>) assesses&nbsp;the potential of&nbsp;test material to&nbsp;be&nbsp;biolo\u00adgi\u00adcally&nbsp;decom\u00adposed&nbsp;under&nbsp;aerobic&nbsp;condi\u00adtions. The oxygen&nbsp;consumption per unit&nbsp;of time (e.g 4 or 7&nbsp;days) is&nbsp;deter\u00admined in the&nbsp;process and compared&nbsp;with&nbsp;corre\u00adsponding blank tests. The respi\u00adration&nbsp;activity&nbsp;is an important&nbsp;parameter in the&nbsp;waste&nbsp;deposit&nbsp;ordinance, for&nbsp;the&nbsp;treatment and deposit&nbsp;of&nbsp;mecha\u00adni\u00adcally and biolo\u00adgi\u00adcally&nbsp;pre-treated&nbsp;waste&nbsp;amongst&nbsp;other&nbsp;things.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>We&nbsp;measure&nbsp;the AT<sub>4<\/sub> in batch&nbsp;test in accordance&nbsp;with&nbsp;the&nbsp;regula\u00adtions&nbsp;of \u201cOrdinance on Environ\u00admen\u00adtally&nbsp;Compa\u00adtible Storage of&nbsp;Waste&nbsp;from Human Settle\u00adments and on Biolo\u00adgical Waste-Treatment Facilities\u201d with&nbsp;the&nbsp;automatic&nbsp;measu\u00adrement&nbsp;system&nbsp;OxiTop<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> (WTW).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Biogas potential test (Digester gas tests) (GB<sub>21<\/sub>)<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list pt-0 mb-0\">\n<li>Similar&nbsp;to&nbsp;breathing&nbsp;activity&nbsp;under&nbsp;aerobic&nbsp;condi\u00adtions, the&nbsp;biogas potential test&nbsp;permits a statement on the&nbsp;ability and dynamic&nbsp;of a sample to&nbsp;be&nbsp;biolo\u00adgi\u00adcally&nbsp;decom\u00adposed&nbsp;under&nbsp;anaerobic&nbsp;condi\u00adtions. For&nbsp;this&nbsp;purpose&nbsp;the&nbsp;biolo\u00adgical&nbsp;methane&nbsp;formation&nbsp;is&nbsp;automa\u00adti\u00adcally&nbsp;analysed&nbsp;over a period&nbsp;of 21&nbsp;days&nbsp;under&nbsp;anaerobic&nbsp;conditions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>This parameter&nbsp;is&nbsp;important&nbsp;for&nbsp;operators&nbsp;of&nbsp;biogas plants, for&nbsp;example. It&nbsp;provides&nbsp;the&nbsp;operator&nbsp;or&nbsp;substrate supplier with&nbsp;infor\u00admation on how&nbsp;much&nbsp;biogas&nbsp;can&nbsp;be&nbsp;produced&nbsp;from a defined&nbsp;substrate&nbsp;during&nbsp;fermen\u00adtation&nbsp;process.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The fermen\u00adtation&nbsp;test&nbsp;is&nbsp;conducted on the&nbsp;basis&nbsp;of German \u201cDIN* 38414 Part 8\u201d (German standard&nbsp;methods&nbsp;for&nbsp;the&nbsp;exami\u00adnation&nbsp;of&nbsp;water, waste&nbsp;water and sludge). German standard&nbsp;tests on carrying out experi\u00adments&nbsp;can also be&nbsp;found in the \u201cOrdinance on Environ\u00admen\u00adtally&nbsp;Compa\u00adtible Storage of&nbsp;Waste&nbsp;from Human Settle\u00adments and on Biolo\u00adgical Waste-Treatment Facilities\u201c and the VDI** Guideline 4630.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-pb-accordion-item c-accordion__item js-accordion-item no-js\" data-initially-open=\"false\" data-click-to-close=\"true\" data-auto-close=\"true\" data-scroll=\"true\" data-scroll-offset=\"100\"><h3 id=\"at-9241\" class=\"c-accordion__title js-accordion-controller\" role=\"button\">Compost maturity tests<\/h3><div id=\"ac-9241\" class=\"c-accordion__content\">\n<p>Composts&nbsp;must&nbsp;be&nbsp;regularly&nbsp;examined&nbsp;within&nbsp;the&nbsp;scope&nbsp;of&nbsp;the German RAL quality&nbsp;assurance&nbsp;system (RAL-GZ 251). The compost&nbsp;maturity (degree&nbsp;of&nbsp;rotting) is&nbsp;regulated in the German Compost&nbsp;Ordinance and provides&nbsp;infor\u00admation on the&nbsp;maturing&nbsp;of&nbsp;the&nbsp;substrate&nbsp;during&nbsp;the&nbsp;course&nbsp;of&nbsp;the&nbsp;composting&nbsp;process. The more&nbsp;mature a compost&nbsp;is, the&nbsp;less&nbsp;oxygen&nbsp;it&nbsp;consumes in a defined&nbsp;period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This measu\u00adrement&nbsp;is&nbsp;carried out with&nbsp;the&nbsp;automatic&nbsp;measu\u00adrement&nbsp;system&nbsp;OxiTop<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> (WTW). Measu\u00adrement of&nbsp;the&nbsp;self-heating&nbsp;of&nbsp;the sample material in the Dewar container also provides&nbsp;infor\u00admation on the&nbsp;biolo\u00adgical&nbsp;stability&nbsp;of&nbsp;the&nbsp;compost.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-pb-accordion-item c-accordion__item js-accordion-item no-js\" data-initially-open=\"false\" data-click-to-close=\"true\" data-auto-close=\"true\" data-scroll=\"true\" data-scroll-offset=\"100\"><h3 id=\"at-9242\" class=\"c-accordion__title js-accordion-controller\" role=\"button\">Biochemical oxygen demand \u2013 B.O.D. (DIN 38 409&nbsp;H&nbsp;51)<\/h3><div id=\"ac-9242\" class=\"c-accordion__content\">\n<p>The bioche\u00admical&nbsp;oxygen&nbsp;demand&nbsp;for&nbsp;n&nbsp;days (<strong>BODn<\/strong>) is&nbsp;usually&nbsp;deter\u00admined&nbsp;during 5&nbsp;days&nbsp;of&nbsp;incubation at 20\u00b0C. It&nbsp;represents&nbsp;the&nbsp;amount&nbsp;of&nbsp;oxygen&nbsp;needed&nbsp;for&nbsp;aerobic&nbsp;decom\u00adposing&nbsp;processes&nbsp;of&nbsp;organic&nbsp;substances&nbsp;by&nbsp;micro\u00ador\u00adga\u00adnisms. The testing&nbsp;substance&nbsp;becomes&nbsp;carbon&nbsp;dioxide, water and bio&nbsp;mass&nbsp;through&nbsp;microbial&nbsp;degra\u00addation&nbsp;process. The basis&nbsp;is&nbsp;the&nbsp;deter\u00admi\u00adnation&nbsp;of&nbsp;unspe\u00adcific&nbsp;parameters such as&nbsp;dissolved&nbsp;organic&nbsp;carbon, biolo\u00adgical&nbsp;oxygen&nbsp;demand and carbon&nbsp;dioxide&nbsp;evolution.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Inves\u00adti\u00adgation of&nbsp;substances&nbsp;for&nbsp;biode\u00adgra\u00addation potential in accordance&nbsp;with OECD Guideline \u201cInherent&nbsp;Biode\u00adgra\u00adda\u00adbility\u201d (302):<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The method&nbsp;is&nbsp;suitable&nbsp;for&nbsp;inves\u00adti\u00adgating&nbsp;the&nbsp;inherent&nbsp;aerobic&nbsp;biode\u00adgra\u00adda\u00adbility&nbsp;of&nbsp;organic&nbsp;substances&nbsp;even in the&nbsp;case&nbsp;of&nbsp;restricted&nbsp;ability&nbsp;to&nbsp;decompose&nbsp;of&nbsp;the&nbsp;test&nbsp;substances.
