It was found, that&nbsp;the&nbsp;already&nbsp;used&nbsp;biocide&nbsp;concen\u00adtra\u00adtions&nbsp;only&nbsp;slowed down bacterial&nbsp;growth&nbsp;too&nbsp;insuf\u00adfi\u00adci\u00adently and that&nbsp;clearly&nbsp;higher&nbsp;biocide&nbsp;doses&nbsp;or an alter\u00adnative biocide was&nbsp;required.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Apart from&nbsp;this, the&nbsp;commercial rapid-tests used at field&nbsp;station&nbsp;to&nbsp;determine&nbsp;sulphate&nbsp;reducing&nbsp;bacteria (SRB) were&nbsp;compared&nbsp;to&nbsp;the&nbsp;laboratory&nbsp;analyses. Here, it&nbsp;had&nbsp;to&nbsp;be&nbsp;deter\u00admined&nbsp;that&nbsp;the rapid tests, after proof&nbsp;of&nbsp;lower, but critical&nbsp;germ&nbsp;content, failed, and only&nbsp;worked&nbsp;from&nbsp;relatively high bacteria&nbsp;popula\u00adtions&nbsp;onwards. Alter\u00adnative test&nbsp;methods&nbsp;were&nbsp;suggested.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-pb-accordion-item c-accordion__item js-accordion-item no-js\" data-initially-open=\"false\" data-click-to-close=\"true\" data-auto-close=\"true\" data-scroll=\"true\" data-scroll-offset=\"100\"><h3 id=\"at-9441\" class=\"c-accordion__title js-accordion-controller\" role=\"button\">Biocide treatment of&nbsp;caverns<\/h3><div id=\"ac-9441\" class=\"c-accordion__content\">\n<p>&nbsp;The operation&nbsp;of&nbsp;numerous&nbsp;caverns&nbsp;has&nbsp;been&nbsp;guided&nbsp;with&nbsp;micro\u00adbio\u00adlo\u00adgical&nbsp;inves\u00adti\u00adga\u00adtions&nbsp;by MicroPro GmbH for&nbsp;more&nbsp;than 40&nbsp;years. Several&nbsp;of&nbsp;these&nbsp;caverns&nbsp;indicated an initial micro\u00ador\u00adganism&nbsp;population after solution&nbsp;mining.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the&nbsp;early 1970s, the&nbsp;micro\u00ador\u00adganism&nbsp;population&nbsp;of&nbsp;one&nbsp;cavern was exter\u00admi\u00adnated&nbsp;successfully&nbsp;with a self-developed&nbsp;biocide&nbsp;formula. Repeated&nbsp;analyses&nbsp;of&nbsp;the subse\u00adquent years&nbsp;proved&nbsp;effec\u00adti\u00adveness&nbsp;of&nbsp;this&nbsp;treatment. At the&nbsp;end&nbsp;of&nbsp;the 1990s an increase in population&nbsp;with&nbsp;sulphate&nbsp;reducing&nbsp;bacteria (SRB) was found&nbsp;again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Based on a recom\u00admen\u00addation&nbsp;of MicroPro GmbH, treatment&nbsp;of&nbsp;the 40.000&nbsp;m\u00b3 cavern was carried out with a salt&nbsp;water soluble biocide in 1999. The inves\u00adti\u00adga\u00adtions in the subse\u00adquent years, the&nbsp;most&nbsp;recent&nbsp;one in 2010, indicated&nbsp;that&nbsp;the&nbsp;brine&nbsp;has&nbsp;remained&nbsp;free&nbsp;of&nbsp;germs after this&nbsp;treatment and thus&nbsp;confirm&nbsp;the&nbsp;treatment&nbsp;concept in its immediate effect&nbsp;as&nbsp;well&nbsp;as&nbsp;being a form of&nbsp;long&nbsp;term&nbsp;protection.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-pb-accordion-item c-accordion__item js-accordion-item no-js\" data-initially-open=\"false\" data-click-to-close=\"true\" data-auto-close=\"true\" data-scroll=\"true\" data-scroll-offset=\"100\"><h3 id=\"at-9442\" class=\"c-accordion__title js-accordion-controller\" role=\"button\">Biocide treatment of an underground gas&nbsp;storage<\/h3><div id=\"ac-9442\" class=\"c-accordion__content\">\n<p>A population&nbsp;of&nbsp;sulphate&nbsp;reducing&nbsp;bacteria (SRB) was proven in the&nbsp;above-ground&nbsp;facilities&nbsp;of a gas storage&nbsp;unit. There was an increased&nbsp;risk&nbsp;of&nbsp;corrosion&nbsp;here&nbsp;through&nbsp;sour-gas formation. The systems&nbsp;were&nbsp;subjected&nbsp;to an annual, prophyl\u00adactic&nbsp;treatment&nbsp;with&nbsp;biocides&nbsp;for&nbsp;this&nbsp;reason.
