{"id":954,"date":"2024-01-11T16:37:33","date_gmt":"2024-01-11T15:37:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/micropro.de\/verfahren\/h2s-entfernung\/"},"modified":"2025-09-23T10:30:43","modified_gmt":"2025-09-23T08:30:43","slug":"h2s-entfernung","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/micropro.de\/en\/verfahren\/h2s-entfernung\/","title":{"rendered":"H\u2082S-removal from&nbsp;biogas"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>MicroPro GmbH has developed an efficient technique for the H<sub>2<\/sub>S\u2011removal from landfill- and&nbsp;biogases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group left-padding-box\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading special\">Technological advantages:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list pt-0\">\n<li>Highly efficient, as a reduction of H<sub>2<\/sub>S content by far more than 90&nbsp;%, independent of initial concen\u00adtration (100 \u2013 5.000&nbsp;ppm)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Clean technology, as the techno\u00adlo\u00adgical design guaranties no air or oxygen enters the biogas system<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Affordable by combi\u00adnation of chemical scrubbing technology with biolo\u00adgical&nbsp;oxidation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>flexible, as highly variable sulphur contents are chemi\u00adcally&nbsp;buffered<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group left-padding-box\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading special\">The patented technique is based on the gas scrubber system:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list pt-0\">\n<li>The hydro\u00adsul\u00adphide ( H<sub>2<\/sub>S) containing biogas is fed through a scrubber column, where H<sub>2<\/sub>S is absorbed by an iron-containing solution. This scrubbing process is highly efficient and reliable. Remaining H<sub>2<\/sub>S concen\u00adtration in the cleaned biogas is below 50 ppm. There is no adverse alteration of biogas compo\u00adsition, since no additional gases (air, oxygen) are carried into this&nbsp;column.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The washing solution circu\u00adlates in a second column were the solution is regene\u00adrated by aerobic micro\u00ador\u00adga\u00adnisms. The absorbed sulphide is oxidized biolo\u00adgi\u00adcally to sulphate. The pH is controlled by addition of ammonia. The ammonia and sulphate enriched washing solution can be combined with the digestate from the biogas fermenter and used as&nbsp;fertilizer.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-pb-accordion-item c-accordion__item js-accordion-item no-js\" data-initially-open=\"false\" data-click-to-close=\"true\" data-auto-close=\"true\" data-scroll=\"true\" data-scroll-offset=\"100\"><h3 id=\"at-9540\" class=\"c-accordion__title js-accordion-controller\" role=\"button\">Further Information<\/h3><div id=\"ac-9540\" class=\"c-accordion__content\">\n<p>The anaerobic degra\u00addation of organic materials results in the conversion of carbon\u2011, nitrogen\u2011, and sulphur-containing organic compounds to the gaseous compounds methane, carbon dioxide, ammonia, molecular nitrogen and hydro\u00adsul\u00adphide. Methane represents the main compound of this gas mixture with 50 to 75% (v\/v). This so-called biogas is used for example as fuel for block heat and power plants. The most proble\u00admatic compound of this gas mixture is hydro\u00adsul\u00adphide, which can make up to 5000 ppm of the biogas. This compound is highly toxic and has also a strong corrosive property.&nbsp; Therefore this compound must be effec\u00adtively elimi\u00adnated before the biogas is used for production of electric or thermic energy or the use in conven\u00adtional gas pipeline network.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The concept is based on chemical absorption of H<sub>2<\/sub>S by means of an iron-containing washing solution with subse\u00adquent biolo\u00adgical regene\u00adration. The washing solution contains minerals and is simul\u00adta\u00adneously used as nutrient broth for selected microorganisms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The system consists of two separate reaction columns and a circu\u00adlating washing solution. Both reactions, the chemical absorption of H<sub>2<\/sub>S and biolo\u00adgical regene\u00adration of iron ions run in parallel but separately in the two columns. A mixture of oxygen-free biogas and air is therefore completely excluded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One column is used as biogas scrubber, where the sorption of H<sub>2<\/sub>S occurs. The resulting iron sulphide (FeS) circu\u00adlates together with the solution into the second column for regene\u00adration, which is filled up with growth bodies and aerated. Here aerobic micro\u00ador\u00adga\u00adnisms oxidize bound sulphur and produce sulphuric acid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Final products of this oxidation process are completely soluble and can easily be discharged into the digestate for further use.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Beside hydro\u00adsul\u00adphide (H<sub>2<\/sub>S) also ammonia is removed from biogas by this&nbsp;process.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:100px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>MicroPro GmbH has developed an efficient technique for the H2S\u2011removal from landfill- and&nbsp;biogases.
