MicroPro's history
The microbiological laboratory of the present MicroPro GmbH was founded in 1967 as a part of the emerging oil industry at the Gommern site. It belonged to the “Research Institute for the exploration and promotion of oil and natural gas” and to the Erdöl-Erdgas Gommern GmbH (Oil and Natural Gas Gommern GmbH) after privatisation in 1990. Extensive research work was conducted and numerous novel processes were developed under the management of Dr. Manfred Wagner:
- Weathering of silicatic rocks
- Production of Xanthan bio-polymer
- Single cell protein production on methane
- Microbial Uranium leaching
- Microbial Enhanced Oil Recovery (MEOR)
- Microbial Prospecting for Oil and Gas (MPOG®)
- Geo-microbial monitoring of microbial processes in underground gas storages and reservoirs
- Aerobic and anaerobic hydrocarbon degradation
The microbiological work area was founded in 1997, when it was also re-structured to become MicroPro GmbH. As a completely self-sufficient and independent company MicroPro GmbH currently employs nine staff, and since its relocation in 2003 in modern laboratories on an area of 600 m2. By extending laboratory space and analytical equipment the opportunity to develop new research and business was achieved. Ever since a permanent global expansion with international business contacts in more than 30 countries takes place.
